Davey Suicide kicks off headlining tour in Portland, OR
Davey Suicide launched a 21-stop US tour at Dante’s in Portland, OR with support from The Funeral Portrait and OH! The Horror. Local rapper Doughpey was also on hand to get the show started.
Three-Piece OH! The Horror put the crowd into a metal mood. Drums were presented courtesy of a backing track. At times, it appeared that some of the vocals might have also been tracked. Despite the lack of a live drummer, the guitar work was heavy and engaging.
The Funeral Portrait was next to hit the Dante’s stage and boy did they hit it. Having driven 36 hours from their home in Atlanta, the exhaustion must have been crippling, but you wouldn’t have known it by their performance. Their sound was tight and vocals were spectacular. The band’s energy was contagious as they worked every inch of the Dante’s stage.
Davey Suicide brought the same amount of energy if not, more. He has a commanding stage presence and all members of the band really interacted with the crowd. Despite some technical difficulties with his microphone during the first couple songs, Davey continued right on pushing through and giving a spectacular performance. Guitarist Niko Gemini was a complete shredder, making his guitar work seem effortless. A quick guitar solo finished with Niko playing the iconic “Sweet Child O’ Mine” over the back and behind his head. Davey asked the audience if we had heard his new single that was released last week. The audience gave a rousing reply, but Davey called us out. “What’s the title of the song”, he taunted. The audience, of course, did not have a reply. I don’t think Davey was going to hold a grudge though as he laughed it off and launched into the new song.
The “Right to Remain Defiant” tour goes through the end of May, closing out in Hollywood.
