In the 90’s, the Gin Blossoms was a band that you couldn’t escape. Huge hits like “Hey Jealousy”, “Til I Hear It From You” and more played on radio stations, conquered the charts and solidified their legacy. The band went through some tumultuous times which strained relationships and eventually lead to the breakup of the band.
Time would prove to be the great healer however, and the Gin Blossoms are back, stronger than ever.
They are currently out on tour and we had a chance to catch up with them at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, OR.
Playing to a sold out room in Lincoln City, the Gin Blossoms, without an opening act appeared to be right in the groove. Singer Robin Wilson spent time sharing stories with the crowd, even taking a zipper-pull from his jacket and giving it to a front-row fan. The crowd was completely subdued, staying in their seats for nearly the entirety of the performance. In fact, at one point a security guard asked a trio of individuals to please sit down. There was no restraint though when Wilson asked the crowd to get on their feet as the band played “Hey Jealousy”. Everyone remained on their feet for the rest of the set.
The song choices for the set were a perfect representation of the Gin Blossoms experience. “Allison Road”, “Until I Fall Away”, “Follow You Down” and “Found Out About You” were all part of the 16 song set. It’s a shame that they weren’t able to play several more songs. The audience just took too long to get up to speed. The Gin Blossoms will be touring this summer with Toad The Wet Sprocket and I look forward to catching them again when they come through the northwest.
