Tech N9ne and Strange Music get Asinine in Portland

Tech N9ne and the Strange Music posse rolled into Portland Oregon with some bad intentions. Playing to a packed Roseland Theater, Joey Cool, XRaided and ¡Mayday! got the show kickin’ before Tech took the stage to bring it home.

Joey Cool rocked the joint for nearly 30 minutes and was just getting off stage when we were finally able to get into the venue. ¡Mayday! took the stage next and really got the crowd moving. Just by the sheer presence and energy of Andrews Mujica (a.k.a. NonMS) on the percussion, you couldn’t help but to bounce and move along.

When Xraided started his set, he was strapped to a mock executioners table. Propped upright, with a mic stand in front of him, every lyric and verse was spit with laser precision. Tech and the Strange Music team always pack his shows with solid support, but Xraided was brilliant and a lot of fun to witness.

Then Tech hit the stage and little did we know, but we were in for a long thrill ride. The chopperstyle lyricist commanded his technicians through 36 tracks (and a few impromptu a capella pieces). Although many songs were trimmed down to a verse or two, like an all-can-eat buffet, it was nice to be able to hit a good variety of tech’s catalog. Right before “Einstein”, Tech called us out to see if there were any die-hard technicians in the house. He then singled out one of Portland’s own to step on stage and recite Einstein with him. Flawless. Cuz that’s how we do in Portland, right?! Later on in the gig, Tech took a breather to just chat with the audience. Chants of “Areola” started and it wasn’t long before Tech started beatboxing and joining in. Anyone that’s been to a Tech N9ne show knows how that plays out. It quickly evolved into “Titties” and of course the PDX ladies had to represent. “Man, we’re having so much fun up here. What else do y’all wanna hear” he went on to say. Tech gave us some “Dysfunctional” as the audience sang along. As he went back into the planned setlist, he played through a handful of his “hits”, thanking everyone for supporting him and making those hits possible. The Tech N9ne Asinine tour goes on through the middle of June before calling it quits in Omaha, NE. Check out StrangeVIP.com for tickets and VIP packages!
